8 Creekin Hours MTB Relay Race Sept 11th, Wheatley ON
Here is a great chance for the first time racer. Last year the WCC entered a 4 person team in this race and we came home with a Third place finish ( including one rider hoofing it almost half a lap due to a flat tire.. ) Two Creeks Conservation offers a great course layout for the newer race enthusiast. Mostly flat with lots of twisting turns in a forest setting. This is no lie..there are no hills here!
We are looking for interested people to join our return group and a team entry from our Youth MTB Program. The entry cost is a deal at $45 per person. We will have experienced riders there to offer support, assistance and a fun atmosphere. Again, this is not an elite race environment. It is called a citizen race for a reason. Cheap camping is available the night prior so you can avoid the early morning drive.
Contact Mark Dunseith (mdunseith@tewinch.com) with any questions or to join the race. We urge you to take the first step. Everyone that has tried this has continued to participate in these events and has enjoyed every opportunity. Click here to see the race flyer.
Fall Epic 8hr Relay Race
The Woodstock Cycling Club will be entering teams into the most popular relay race series in Ontario. Dukes 8hr Relay Race at Hardwood Hills, Barrie, Ontario is an ultimate race event at one of the most premier locations for cross country trail riding. Designed for fun and a challenge this venue appeals to all riders.
The WCC entered 3 teams into the summer 8hr event. The feedback and results were spectacular! So here is your chance to join the excitement. We are forming teams of 3 and 4 person relay groups for the September 24th race. This is not an intimidating, competitive undertaking. A relay race is the perfect opportunity to try an organized cycling event. Be around hundreds of like-minded people, some of the coolest XC bikes around and a group of Woodstock cyclist that have more fun than anyone!!
Check out the race's website for race information here. Contact Mark Dunseith (mdunseith@tewinch.com) with any questions or to register your interest in joining the race. I urge you to take the first step. Everyone that has tried this has continued to participate in these events and has enjoyed every opportunity.
Jun 2011
Hello WCC people..
For the first time in many years we are looking to organize a group race event. The most popular race outing in Ontario is the 8 hour relay event. On July 23rd at Hardwood hills is the Dukes Summer 8 hour race. Many of us have done the 8, 12 and 24 hour races and know how much fun these are.
I would like propose the WCC enter a few teams 3 or 4 person into this race. There is also the goal of the club subsidising riders in cost, food, something..
We have a lot of riders in the club that can easily ride these trails and have fun doing it. If you have never been to a relay race then sign up! You will not regret it. Support from other club riders will make it the perfect experience.. besides Hockey is over.. what else have you got to do?? I am also looking at entering some of the Youth riders in their first race. Be there to support them!
Check out the link below. Talk to people who have been to these.

I need names for the end of the month ( sorry ). This is open to non WCC riders as well. If you have a friend that would be interested let them know. The WCC used to send teams all the time, let’s show some of that old school ambition. Respond to me directly. We will also put info on the Web site and Facebook..
Thanks again for being members, take advantage of what we are about.
Other Notes:
- Family and friend ride & BBQ July 2nd at the Pines. Don’t need a family, just come out, see web site.
- Planning a trip to Ellicottville for MTB weekend, if interested let Gerald Mueller know
- Is anyone in the landscaping business, excavating? We need help building the Pump Track.
Cheers,
Mark Dunseith

New Post July 26th - MEB
Temporary Trial Membership - Trail Passes
Due to several requests and cause it makes sense.. we are implementing Trial Trail Passes this season. We hope this will address the issues raised about trying the trails out before making a full membership investment. The Trial Membership – Trail pass will be processed the same as a full membership without the sticker. A temporary Membership card will be issued and valid for a period of 10 days… Appropriately the cost of this is $10.00 person.
Payment and Temp cards can be arranged at Pedal Power, 590 Dundas Street, Woodstock. If you would like more information on this please contact me at markeboy@sympatico.ca
The UTRCA will be patrolling the Pines entrance gate at various / random times. A Valid Membership sticker or a valid Temp Card is required for all riders at the Pines.

Charity Spin Competition
The WCC has been invited to participate in a fund raising event for Families and Children with Cancer.
In mid November, masses of hairy legged, clogged lung, spandex-phobic, pavement dwellers will be trying to show you up ( and raise lots of money for charity as well ).. “The Inside Ride”. www.Theinsideride.com
Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation presents the Inside Ride, Canada’s first indoor cycling challenge and fundraising event dedicated to raising monies in support of families and children with cancer. Support will be provided where the needs are greatest, including funding of oncology camps, community support programs, academic scholarships and other areas which contribute to inspiring hope and improving prognoses for children and their families impacted by cancer.
More information will follow.
Event News Posted February 12 2009
March.. The WCC has confirmed our participation in the Recreation and Leisure Fair on
Sunday March 1st. The fair runs from 1pm to 4pm at the Community Complex's Goff Hall. There is an article for it in the February " What's on Woodstock" mag. We even get some free ink in the first line of the article... WCC will have a booth at the fair to promote the club, activities and the intense coolness associated with our sport! Unfortunately I could not find a web site for the event to pass along.
June.. This one is worth a few well chosen lines.. "
Woodstock Trails Day" - June 13th. Now if your like I was last year you will think this is a call out to the enviro-conscious among us for some down to earth trail clean up.. Well, you’d be wrong! Trails day is a multi interest event intended to raise awareness of the trail systems thru the area and the various clubs that utilize them. WCC has joined the Trails Day Committee in support of the event. We will also be offering tours at the pines ( short and sweet ) for the few stragglers that may venture over. More information will follow and people contacted for assistance with the event. Anyone inspired to lace up the shoes and regress back into the days before bikes were invented ( that means run.. ) can get all the info at
www.trailsdaywoodstock.ca . Seriously though.. we are in full support of this event as it is an educational vehicle that reaches deep into the community. We appreciate being a major part of it.

Annual Thames River Cleanup for 2009
I am hoping that once again this year, I will be able to count on your group efforts relative to the upcoming 10th Annual Thames River Cleanup to be held on Saturday, April 18th. I have added a name or two for those I feel might be interested in joining in on our efforts. Go to
http://www.thamesrivercleanup.ca/ to access registration ballots and for further information.
I am sure that gloves and bags will be made available either by the Thames River Cleanup Coordinators or the City of Woodstock. However, for anyone who has these supplies on hand already, please bring them along as this helps minimize unneeded waste and expense. Any questions in this regard, please contact me. This year, I have to work on the Saturday, so need to assure everything is settled prior.
A few suggestions / requests I would like to share.
-
If you could provide confirmation of involvement as soon as possible, that would be greatly appreciated; I realize a 'head count' may be an 'estimate' at best, but toss out a potential number if you can. Also, please spread the word among your own email contacts, so that we can 'grow our numbers'. I am only forwarding this to the leaders of each group.
-
Again, take photos / videos; There is a related Facebook group which is now up to 126 people; for anyone who doesn't mind their photos / videos being shared, this site will help bring this group to life and help us feel interconnected. It is called The Annual Thames River and is available @ our Facebook Group
-
Preparedness tips: Dress for the weather! This is traditionally a rain or shine event! Children welcome, but of course take care to assure their safety. I recommendation for those group members who are 'handy' is to construct a few 'pick up poles' with a metal nail on the end to help facilitate cleanups in hard to reach areas.
-
A barbecue is likely to be held, most likely at Southside Park; details will be provided closer to the date of the Cleanup.
-
Also keep general track of what / how much waste is collected, as this makes for a good follow up coverage, and is helpful to overall records management as well. I am asking that each group submit their own results / ballots, rather than myself collecting them and forwarding them on. This facilitates quicker results management, especially since the canoe draw is within a week or so of the event. (Details on website)
-
Please forward any questions / confirmation and I will respond as required. And keep this email handy for quick reference. I hope to hear from you soon!
